Cub scouts invade StateLine Gem and Mineral Society

Cub scouts invade StateLine Gem and Mineral Society to take on a day of learning and fun.

The day started off with a class on opals from Charles. Charles talked about
where the gem came from and the different types of opals that are in the world.
The scouts were also told about the Mohs scale and how to tell what the hardness
of a rock will be by things that a person would have around the house or in their pockets.

After a quick lunch, the scouts started having fun digging for garnets and Pyrite
(known as fools gold) in the sand. Then we started to look for garnets and sapphires
in the little bag of river rocks that was made up for them.

We all had fun with the cracking of the geodes, which each scout got to take home
with them. They also got to take home little bags of tumbled stones and bags of
bubble gum stones that were donated by Linda.

There were three Scout troops from Morenci, Hudson, and Addison.
All told, 26 were there for the day of fun.

Everyone had fun when the Scouts invaded the club house.
